not bad, was semi productive today, better than I expected. as long as I can come up with one sketch that I find 90% satisfactory at this time then I'm happy. Considering that I did about 7 sketches... 1/7 is better than 0/7 right? But more to do, must finalize the plan tomorrow, print out and photo copy more inspirational images, yada yada yada... damn research, but better than dealing with spreadsheets and numbers in size 9 fonts with 20+ columns and hundreds of rows... ahhhh bad flashbacks.
talked to sis today. even though her comments could be rediculously subjective and inaccurate, and not to mention hard to take at times but I humbly accept her opinion today (although I feel like she technically isn't an expert in this area and that I'm not sure if she's able to translate that information into a 3D space... if I had explained any at all). She's seen my SD I project (hotel design) via my digital camera while she was driving, and based on that along she felt that my designs aren't that unique or interesting. A wow factor's still missing-- I agree. I agree because I feel that way about my own designs; I know what my strengths are and I'm also aware of my weaknesses. I think I usually have a really great concept in mind but it somehow doesn't get carried out all the way, through the project. Like I am only able to express such idea 90% yet the remaining 10% is just as important. W/o the rest the project seems .... not incomplete, but it just feels like it could be better, the "wow" factor isn't quite there. I know if I had explain the concept to her and describe the interior then she might have had a different opinion, but at the same time I do think that even if there's no perspective drawings a plan by itself should also present a strong statement. So I failed, in that aspect. This is great though, I need someone outside of the field to give me his/her honest opinion, because afterall in the end I will be working with people that's outside the profession. I might get frustrated, impatient, annoyed, but that's what this is all about. The art of communicating what I see to someone else, who has a totally different approach to life. I know now, based on my current project that sometimes limitation is necessary, otherwise there are endless possibilities and various solutions to a single problem, how do we choose, what to keep and what to throw out? So yeah, I've decided in the end, three weeks into the quarter, that I will embrace this project whole heartedly despite obvious set backs and unpleasant surprises. This is fun, afterall, and I hope I will create something interesting with a strong concept that's fully carried through in the end of the quarter... to think if my boards are presented in the hall way like sally's... how awesome would that be!
